Got to black rock around 4 pm, high tide at sunset at 8:40 pm went left of the pier 100m down onto some rocks where there was a deep hole
Fished that area for 3 hours for nothing, a couple of bites here and there but ultimately kept getting snagged and lost about 3 rigs.
Move onto the pier around 7 pm because I was sick of getting snagged, no action around the pier, and nothing between me and some other fishes, small bites seen on my bait but that's it.
Was about to leave at around 9:20 pm when my rod started getting some good bites.. set the hook and BANG we're on, feels like a good fish as im pulling it in, it shakes and pulls drag, Wow this may be something good.
I get it up close to the pier and start to see some colour... a big flippin banjo shark around 1-2 metres comes up...
Try to pull the leader and it snaps... would have been around 10-15kg
Overall an okay day... no sinkers left and don't really wanna buy more so might be it for bait fishing for a while.

If your out of sinkers you could always use nuts n bolts or old spark plugs. Seen few guys use them and they worked fine. Atleaste you gave it a good crack mate, better luck next time

Thanks for the report, a bit unlucky. I haven't got a legal snapper this season either :D was thinking to to black rock, maybe I should go somewhere else, lol.
You really tested your gear though pulling 10-15 kg banjo.

Yeah, rod and reel handled it well! I think at this point more snapper and pinkies are getting caught further down along the Mornington peninsula such as off the Mt Martha rocks and I've seen a couple pulled in from morno pier.

There are fish there mate
I find it way more less snaggy casting to the right than over to the left.
Cheers
