No good I would of said your line would brake before a gama even only being a 2/0 if it was light gauge. Never has a issue with a gama also like black magic hooks also. Up the hook size a little I’d say depending on live bait size though. Hopefully next time you can land a ripper fish.wem21 wrote:Gamakatsu 2/0 hooksHosery wrote:No good on missing a good fish. But better than hooking nothing. Hmm hook snapped in half. Sounds like dodgy hooks or not strong enough for the job. I only buy quality hooks so that heart ache doesn’t happen. What hooks were you using.

I think it would be too far from freshwater for mulloway...STriplett1997 wrote:By your description, and using a livie it could only have been two things. A Kingfish or a Mulloway... Mulloway sounds more unlikely, but i've seen them caught at Lagoon Pier before so you never know i guess...
You can purchase quality gear without breaking the bank too much. Wouldn't ever try target fish along the lines of those without solid gear that would get the job done, especially not cheap hooks!
Kingy is pretty unlikely this far from bass strait

Re: Black Rock this morning
Well done mate. Better than going to uni.
What a shame you couldn't land it.
Im thinking it was a mulloway. Kingfish you might have atleast seen the olive tinge. Jewies eyes do light up nice and red too. And they have a nice silvery purple sheen on them

Re: Black Rock this morning
There was a video doing the rounds a couple of years back of a school of large kingfish around the Rye jetty. I don't see why they wouldn't be hunting schools of baitfish around Blackrock / Cerberus wreck area.
