Whiting 22/12/2016
So last night I headed to my whiting spot once again.
Unlike last week where I was fishing the bottom of the tide, last night was the exact opposite and I was fishing the incoming tide.
When I arrived and parked my car and looked out it was a bit choppier than I would like it but knew the wind would be going down later so started to get my things ready.
Last time I was using long shank size 6 hooks and was getting hook ups only when I held the rod. As you all know I ended up with 9 good size whitings but had to strike each time and lost many others.
This time I decided to use some size 6 circle hooks just to see how I go.
Set up my rod holders and casted my first rod with live pippies. Put it in the rod holder and was getting my second rod ready when I saw a bite and my line went slack. I reeled in the slack line to feel a fish on the end of my line. First whiting had hooked itself
From then on it was madness with plenty of bites. Most of the time I only had time to use 1 rod!
Just after dark as I was reeling a whiting in, I saw a massive fish which I think was a KGW follow the one that was hooked. My eyes popped out it was so large! If only I had hooked that one I thought. It looked like a 50cm whiting.
Next cast the rod goes off. I'm only using an ultra light 12 ft surf rod and it turns out I had a double header of pinkies around the 35 cm mark.
In the end after around 2 and a half hours of fishing I ended up with 12 king George whitings, 4 pinkies and a nice sized flattie.
Was a fun and enjoyable evening!
Merry Christmas and a Happy new year to All!
Cheers,
LX.

Awesome catch LX! Were you fishing from the beach by any chance? I tried for whiting on the same night as you but I as getting smashed by sea lice. Only manaaged a 32cm pinkie!
