Ricketts 16m

Had a great session on the reds today. Been waiting for some nice weather to give the reds a crack and we finally got it this morning. My boy and me got our bag off Ricketts in 16m. Smallest was 53 cm and the biggest 82 cm.
Headed in to the ramp where there was a bit of a queue. And while I was waiting with the car, Sam and the others with their boats at the jetty were checked by fisheries. It was good to see them. It seems we were one of the lucky ones as most people who got fish only managed one or two around the 50-60 cm range.
The reds were very finicky on the bite. They would hit like a flathead and you had to wait a bit until they took off. Great fight and fun to catch. No sleep, bent rods and sore arms equals Snapper season in Melbourne.
We launched at Mordi at around 3.30 to beat the crowd and headed out in beautiful conditions to one of my marks off Ricketts. I started sounding from the 15m line and found some fish away from any boats. The first baits hit the water at 4.20. The first red hit the deck at 4.40 and the last just after sunrise. Stayed for another 30 mins as Sam tried to get a red on an SP but apart from some small hits there was no further action.
After getting our bag we went over to the Pinnacles where Sam got onto some squid while I cleaned the fish. Ended up with 9 good sized ones. Headed in to the ramp where there was a bit of a queue.
