Fishing report 23
Woke up at 5 looked at the wind readings and went back to bed. At about 7 looked at the wind readings and seeing that it was forecast to ease, we decided to launch. Packed the boat and headed to Patterson, there were a fair few boat trailers there, so we launched and crossed the infamous Patterson river bar. It was lumpy but this time we didn't get a drenching, and once across we motored at a leisurely pace up towards Ricketts point with one eye on the sounder for any likely looking arches.
Eventually making it to near Ricketts point and not finding any arches along the way, we sounded in shallow, eventually go over some likely looking marks, first attempt to set anchor failed, but on the second attempt success.
Between two of us we had two rods with snapper snatches and three rods with a small sinker double hook, 3/0 and 4/0. With 40lb leader.
Bait was the humble pilchard.
First fish in the boat, came in at about 32 cms, the next one picked up the bait and ran, until it felt the weight of the rod and promptly dropped bait. In all we caught another two getting bigger in size and lost another two.
We moved a few times finding more arches, but no takers, eventually pulling the plug and having a slow trip back to the ramp, as the wind had picked up, and with that the waves had increased in size. Entering the infamous Patto bar, there as a fair load of water trying to get out with the wind trying to push it back in.
Decisions, decisions, do I go in fast or slow. I tried keeping up with the speed of the waves until we were caught a slewed sideway, heading towards the stone barrier, so off with the power an serve avoid catastrophe.
