Post by cahoona » Wed Nov 18, 2015 5:23 pm

Launch at 4 am at blackrock tried 17 metres no luck went out near the shipping channel got a few flatties done a little move and got a gummy not real big but a nice feed . went in to try for squid got 3 then looked at the jig to see if one was behind it and seen about 10 fish following it so went back dropped the anchor and we put lures on and bang where both on in came salmon after salmon after salmon we both bagged out they were 30 cm to 37 cm lots of fresh bait gave some to the inlaws to eat and my mate took his home to eat it was a bloody good day even if we got no snapper
cheers Allan

At that size, the salmon make great eating fresh out of a smoker. I leave that scales on and just remove the gills and the guts. You can peel off the skin once it's cooked. I usually marinate it in a brine mixture of brown sugar, salt and enough water to just cover the fish for about 2-4 hours. I can usually fit about 6-8 fish in one of those smokers that uses methylated spirits. Much maligned eating fish the old bay trout.
