Re: My 3rd go at Mordy Pier
People would have been calling them Bay Trout, it was a common name years ago. No relation to trout of fresh water.

Way to make me even more jelous. Looks like I have to have an early session on monday morning.
And as for the name they're most commonly known as aussie salmon. But in fact aren't even related to the salmon family.

Nope. Some brown trout, (Salmo Trutta) do migrate to and from the ocean, they then become sea trout, or, sea run brown trout. They are in no way related to Aussie Salmon, (Arripis Trutta), which are a relative of the mullets..The confusion of names is due to early Australian settlers of British origin, who gave names to Aussie native animals that were reminiscent of the names for similar looking european species..
How the hell a murray cod looks anything like it`s atlantic namesake is beyond me though..
Carl..

carl they do get sea run browns in australia just extremely rare and they dont come back normally. and cod are called cod because of the tail shape a cod's tail is convex bulging out but a trouts tail concave more like a pelagics tail.
