It was a remark about our Asian friends.. not very tactful I'm afraid, out of all the people that fish next to me on the piers, I find they are the most respectful.
He who has the most fishing rods WINS ! :ts:

I agree. Majority are better than the more experienced regulars and old farts.

However, a few that are new to this hobby still do not follow the norms. They are still easy to get excited and do annoying stuff. Example - I was squidding in Portsea with my wife last month. I big squid followed my white jig but wont hit it. It was so huge others saw it from a distance. While I was reeling in my wife's dark jig, 4 of our Asian friends swarmed all over us and dropped their jigs weighted by size 12 oz (exaggerated of course) sinkers. As soon as their big sinkers hit the water, the squid darted away. Even before I can fully retrieve the dark jig, these pricks ran away too dragging their sinkers hoping the squid was just a few meters away.

What can we do? We don't own the piers and rock walls. The best we can do is befriend everyone and get along well. Who knows, the guy beside you may save your life one day.

By the way, I grew up in Asia too.

No Way .. from your avatar i wouldn't have though so - there's not a single strain of black hair on your body !!! :)

On a seriously note, there are always some bad apples on every tree. Majority of the bad ones are just not well informed and educated to understand what they're doing can be bad - legally and environmentally. The remaining bad ones are just so rotten that fisheries should take a hard stance against but sometimes we all feel these ones are often let off way so lenient.

I gave Brighton Breakwall and pier a go for the first time ever today. I thought I would try soft plastics, so chose the outgoing tide and started around 2.00 p.m., slowly covering ground up to the end of the breakwall at about 4.15 p.m. Not a single touch! Ah well, new spots often take a while to figure out.

There are definitely fish to be caught there. Over the years I have worked out certain places fish better in certain conditions. Better luck next time.
