I could feel grit within the reel the instant we retrieved it. I’ve taken it apart and cleaned every nook and cranny I could. Fingers crossed it’ll be ok.

Service the reel and spray with wd40 that will dry all the salt up and stop from caroding

R.I.P fishing reel. Only had 1 year of service. She was young, too young. Nevertheless, she made me proud.

I think I’m going to use her remains for scientific research and a dissection as I have never fully disassembled a fishing reel and seen what inside.

If you didn't continue using it with the sand inside after you retrieved it you should be able to save it.

Pull it all apart (take pictures if you have to) and soak it for a few hours in kerosene. Then clean off all the old grease with a paint brush and put it all together with new grease. Should be like it was.

Yup it will still feel like there were sand inside it. Once the gears are damaged (or scratched) it will never be the same no matter how you clean it.
