I have caught pinkies from the start of the pier all the way to the end and on the inside. Would be the same for snapper.

fished for around 7 hrs no gar to be seen, also had 2 rods out 1 for whiting and 1 for pinkies, with out a touch
after 3 hrs i decided to flick for squid and the results were, 4 squid and only saw 2 other squid caught

Doesn't seem to be many gars around Brighton/port Melb area.
At least you caught some squid though :)

Silverfish, and and just pellets soaked with the sea water
