Or email the supplier and ask for a bogus <$20 invoice to be included.

What I've heard over the last couple of days was that the GST would be collected at the Point of Sale (i.e. the online retailer). Unlikely that you're going to get many outside the big online retailers playing the game. In the end, just another Australia Tax on top of the penalties we already pay plus paying more due to the AUD going down. Would be better to increase the medicare levy rather than GST. But that's just a smoke screen anyway.4liters wrote:Dunno how much money they'll make from checking every package that comes into the country, it might end up cost more to enforce than it will bring in taxes.

I believe you will see more people just asking the supplier to specify "gift" on the package.ingeer wrote:Seriously $20???? what the hell can you buy online for that? A take-away?

They may specify "Gift" on the package, but like some countries they'll start opening packages to check & add an import duty/tax onto it. They already monitor Ebay, Gumtree etc etc plus they can check your bank transactions. This new digital cashless age is a win for governments.
