Re: Are these a good deal?
Never tried savage gear rod and reels, they're always on sale at BCF.
I met someone with savage gear rod the other day and looked/felt okay. Not sure about the reel.

Re: Are these a good deal?
I’ve got (I think it’s) the mpp2 rod that came with reel, braid, leader and a box of plastics on special for $99. Different from the savage gear model in the picture. I wouldn’t get it again though. I could break the plastics in half with my forefinger and thumb (threw them out before I even used them), the hooks on the jigheads bent really easily, the leader snapped way below its breaking strain, the reel has sloppy drag and the handle constantly unscrews itself. My mate gave me his one too after using it for one session so they got demoted to my trawling for squid rods. I’d be very disappointed if I paid the RRP. Other people may have had different experiences, but that’s my thoughts on them
