new boat owner..

Post by tr3los » Fri Mar 07, 2014 5:03 pm

hi guys I've finally got myself my first boat, its a 3.9 tinny with a 15hp Yamaha, clean tidy little thing :) just wondering where I can go to target gummies? iv been trying a secret spot I know quite well that's very calm, I've been doing consistently well landing myself gummies around the meter mark but now Im kind of getting bored of the same fish I want to go for a bigger model. so just wondering does anyone here own a similar boat that takes it out western port? I wanna try a few spots I've fished landbased in western port but have been warned not to in the tinny as western port current/winds can be unforgiving.. can anyone shed some light on the situation? Any information at all will greatly been appreciated as I wanna venture out to bigger and better things but without risking my life.

Hey tr3los, given the right wind and tides you can go just about anywhere in westernport. I fish a fair bit out of blind bight and tooradin and see plenty of crazy people in small tinnies haha
Any wind up to 5 kts and blowing with the tide will see the top end pretty smooth and the tide running against it will produce a little swell but not too much.

If you do head out from any of the northern ramps just avoid the wind blowing against the tide when your coming back up the channels on your way back in, especially a run out with a southerly as they can chop up pretty bad.

Sooooo where you regularly getting those meter gumbos ? Hahahaha

Safe boating bud

Adsy.

well done on getting a boat

i see plenty of smaller boat out with me and i have a 5.2 mt boat and i go around Tortoise Head
dont fish westernport if there is more then 1.5 mt in tide difference, too much water flow
and if you fish 2 hours either side of the tides you will be ok especially if your driving the same way the tides running to get back to ramp

You have to be careful of secret spots on long weekends, you may find 4 to 6 boats tied to yours while your fishing, :icon_lolz: cheers davo

You should probably wait for the lang lang specialist cheaterparts to pop in for that info. But the same rules apply for that area but it is a lot shallower over that side. Iv only ever launched from corrinella and headed south but there may be somewhere further up towards lang lang where you can launch your boat.

Do you have a sounder? If you heading to WP you should have one.
Also if you have an iPhone download the navionics app. It will cost you around $25 for all the upgrades but its worth every penny. I have a GPS on my boat but still find myself using navionics to navigate my way around. I'll post a screenshot of the info it can give you.

Tortoise heads is the bottom left hand corner of French island.

Keep the questions coming mate that's what everyone's here for.Image
