20lb is only 8-9 kg frozenpod, the by catch when fishing for gummies are rays, skate, other sharks and other big heavy fish. The lightest I would go is 40lb

Most sharks feed in the water colum, sure they might have a go at a bait on the bottom if it is right in front of them but it is unlikely.

20lb is fine IMO, it is what we typically use and have had zero issues landing heaps of gummies largest going 25kg, not to mention states of skates and other by catch.

My experience would say otherwise, been bitten off on 80lb more times then I can count lol.

Not sure what you guys are doing but I've been bitten off once in the last 10 years or so.

For the last few years or we have been using 30lb braid backing with 30-40lb tough mono or fluro leader for gummies but I would have easily caught in excess of 100 gummies using 20lb mono. Landed the odd toothy in that time with mono as well.

Apart from Gummies, are any other sharks targeted to keep for the table?
thanks
Jim
