I was at the Rhyll ramp over summer and the charter boat 'T-Cat' was transferring 1/2 a dozen or so threshers into the customers ute. When I approached for a look, they went a bit shy and didn't want to talk (although I'm sure it was all legal, it looked like a massacre) The charter guy mumbled something about 'not far offshore' but wouldn't elaborate.
Pretty useless info I know, but if you're really keen you could go out on a charter and see what he does and where he goes (he obviously knows what he's doing)

I know of one being hooked at Pt Leo beach and another off the front of Woolamai. I'm not sure how you'd go about predicting where they are though.

Lures and live bait are likely to get you tail hook ups, as they stun their prey by wacking it with their tale. As mentioned in the other thread smaller baits are the go. At the moment they are following the snapper around in the bay, so anywhere is as good a chance as specific spots at the moment.

One of cini's charters got one last week on a snapper setup.

From what I've read about them they seem to be a nomadic species always roaming and not hanging around any specific location.

One of Matt Cini's clients landed one off Black Rock just the other day in close just on the reef!

Not sure on exact locations though

Thanks guys appreciate the input.

RE black rock that would have to be an unlikely catch at that location.
