Sharks At Kilcunda

I was checking the CFA's incidents and warnings site today regarding the bushfires at Marlo when I saw a strange CFA warning of dangerous animals at Kilcunda.

Clicking open the info link it seems there is a large whale carcass close to Kilcunda Beach which is attracting a lot of sharks. The report warns people not to go anywhere in the water at the moment as there is always the possibility of sharks being in very shallow water near the beach.

May be an opportunity for some land based sharking for those who are keen.

Parks are going to bury the whale in the dunes. Be interesting to see if there is seepage into the ocean as the whale decomposes.

Apparently the local community in Port Macquarie cracked the ***** about a shark buried on the beach up there.

Lol yeh not easy to dispose of tonnes of rotting flesh so burying it is the easy way out.
The beach up at Port Macquarie is a busy one and the Kilcunda one not so much so I guess they could get away with it.

Could make for good shark fishing for a while though. No surfing there for a while I would think. Slide out a nice big salmon with a few 10/0's and a 10ft wire trace to see what happens..

There's a 9 metres humpback washed up on the sand there right now.

They are planning on burying it tomorrow.

From the ABC facebook page, 12hrs ago.

"Shark bait. Surfers beware. This 9 metre humpback whale carcass washed ashore at Kilcunda on Sunday and Parks Victoria rangers are having trouble moving it from the water's edge. They'll return to the surf beach tomorrow to bury it at the base of the sand dunes. "
