I've never seen them on a menu or sold in a fish 'n chip shop. Put them back in the water alive in my opinion.

Re: Are banjo shark edible ?
I have tried it before, it tasted ok, although I found for myself the effort it took to clean (skin, etc) and small amount of meat (only ate the tail) wasn't worth killing the fish

Re: Are banjo shark edible ?
A mate of mine reckons they taste realy good in tom yum soup. I reckon theres heaps of better fish to eat so why would we wanna eat banjos. Theyre great ocean cleaners though and they deserve to be thrown back to do thier part on the seabed. Ive seen alot of old fishos and other inconsiderate fishos purposely kill them and leave them on land to dry n die, realy sad to see. Same goes for puffers too, they may be anoying to catch but they play a part in ravaging through all the crap we throw in the water.

I tried it once. tasted like flake but the time it took to clean and the little flesh I got off it was definitely not worth the effort, I release them now.

Re: Are banjo shark edible ?
All sharks and rays are "edible" and taste very similar. However there isn't much meat on Bango's and the tough skin makes them a pain to skin.
Most of the "lower quality" sharks are not processed in the commercial industry as they have high shrinkage when cooked. If you get a piece of flake at a fish and chip shop and the meat rattles around inside the batter, then you know they are using low quality shark not gummy.
In my opinion stick to eating, gummy, swordshark, mako, Bronzies, eagle rays, large skate. The rest are rubbish. Even deep water dog shark shrink like hell.

There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

Re: Are banjo shark edible ?
I keep and eat every big 1 i get.
The little guys arent worth it but the big ones are.
I cook them on the bbq and cook on high heat for 4 minutes a side with a bit of salt n pepper.
Similar to flake and sort of looks like a big flatty tail.
Eat up and enjoy
