It's one thing to hold 50kg, but doing it for a length of time with the sort of leverage you'll have to contend with from using a rod sounds like an entirely different kettle of fish.
as i said in the topic,I'm just asking if i should go with the 550m of 150lb braid (witch could sustain 100 lb of drag pressure when im at half spool) that i allready have on my reel or should i switch it off for 1000m of 80lb line. DID NOT want to cause an argument.

because im on a shoe string budget right now,(i quit my part time) i just wanted to know if the line i already have will do, dont really want to drop another $70 on new line.
If your wondering why do I have 150lb line at the first place, I was in Thailand trying to catch a freshwater stingray(that sort of line was needed) but ended up with no luck. :(

Strike is set at 6.8kg from memory, no more than 8kg. Haven't needed to increase it from there so far. Expect that might change in Nov, when I fish the 90mile comp.

Can you point us to an academic source for this 100lbs of drag pressure?
And as far as line, go a kilometre of either 15kg or 24kg line rather than that crazily heavy (line capacity is far more important and with a big shark your never going to be able to just reef it in like any other fish, the type your targeting are just to powerful for that.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vy-djoANbgI according to this guy thats what you need is 120lb for shark fishing,
I needed the 100lb when i was at Thailand but ended up not even hooking one. :(
i was trying to hook a stingray to be exact, they are like a plug on the bottom of the river so you needed to put ALOTE of pressure on it.

No way man, join the facebook page "surf and offshore fishing 90 mile beach" theres some crazy sharks (bronzies and the like) caught on there, majority run an 80w with 24kg mono or braid with a 200lb or so windon for the last part.
No need for that heavy thats for sure
