St Leonard's gummies

[Fish seeker]

Hi all, anyone caught gummies or snapper around the west channel pile at at Leonard's. I know they catch them deep of there near mud island but not willing to go that far. Was thinking you could catch them around the pile or out in 15 metres or shallower. Thanks in advance

Not fished st leonards a lot.
But i know on western shore (werribee) I have caught gummys from 2 to 8 meters.
Mainly on fresh salmon.

Sure you will get a more accurate response regarding st leonards soon.

Most of the channels around st lenoards will have gummies if you are serious they are mostly caught at night find the edge of the channel anchor, burley can also attract unwanted fish rays banjo's etc but does help. The channel just out from the yacht club I have caught them there but only at night.
During the day I have caught them in steampacket channel straight out from portarlington. And drifting near the radio reporting beacon out from portarlington. Good hunting

I believe if your catching banjos, rays an port Jacksons your in the right spot. Burley is good but have also been told gummies have a great sense of smell so burley is not essential as it will just attract unwanted bycatch

Last trip I had there, Rays weren't the problem, it was the plague of undersize flathead attacking all my baits as soon as they hit the bottom, no matter where I moved. I wouldn't use Berley I its not needed, just fresh bait.

Driting incoming tide 500mt north of the radio reporting beacon towards the entrance to steampacket channel we caught 3 in one day 2 on squid tentacle and one on a pilchard .

If you catching to many flathead or rays, wind you bait up a half meter to meter off bottom.

I find salmon,trevally ect have enough scent on them own and no need to burly.
