Best sounder/transducer under $750?

Post by Hammy Y » Thu Nov 30, 2017 11:30 am

Hey all,

As a gift for the old man's Christmas I'm looking at getting him a new sounder as the current one us a tiny ancient lowrance unit. Have found the Garmin Striker7SV and it looks the goods for $749.99, with a 7" display, sidevu, a pretty good looking transducer, gps (We don't even have gps currently) and also the ability to create your own maps.
Has anyone got this sounder and can give their opinion? Or even recommend some other ones for $750 or less?

Cheers,
Hammy

Also what's the difference between the Striker 7sv and the Striker 7sv plus? The "plus" is $50 cheaper?

The plus is a brand new model that now has Wi-Fi connectivity and 'quickdraw' which allows you to draw your own maps via the sonar readings when the option is switched on whilst underway as the Striker (and plus) series does not natively support maps or map cards. There's no point buying the older non-plus model unless you get it for a good price. The GPS on both is merely for marking spots, giving your co-ords and basic things like that.

If maps are critical, your only Garmin options are the Echomap and GPSmap series, both of which come with extra $ outlay

Check out CH Smith in Fairfield, they usually have pretty good specials. Heaps cheaper than BCF etc.
