What do people use on there boat?
Is there a cheaper option or possibly making some at home?

Go to BCF or a ships chandler, there are an assortment of stainless steel clips to choose from, buy some rope from them as well, and if you know how to a binding, I used some dacron that I had laying about. and made 2 for myself.smile0784 wrote:What clips did you use?

DIY is cheaper I would be going a nylon rope with spliced ends attached clips to suit.

I agree. I've made rod clips with rope you can find at Bunning's and steel carabiners (similar to those used for rock climbing). Rope is less than $10 for a spool and carabiners shouldn't be more than a dollar or two a piece. Cut a length of rope a couple feet long, attach carabiners to both sides, clip one to your reel and the other to the boat. None of this $15 for a lanyard rubbish.
