I always grab my squid with my hand rather than netting or gaffing. Seems a lot easier, and far less messy cos I can always point em away from the boat that way.

Fine on boats but I wonder how you will do that in Flinders pier, Sorrento, Portsea, Rye and Mornington. :-)

Squid gaff is better than using nets. No mess to clean up, easy to carry. I use one that extends to 12 feet. No issues pulling one up from Flinders pier.

Squid gaffs are a god send for the landbased squid fisho. For a big one Hook the top half of the hood and lift. Empties out the hood at the same time making it easier to lift.

Yeah, designed for the land based guys, not needed in a boat. Try landing a big squid at lorne or flinders and you will wish you had one

I use a net, purely because I can net squid as well as fish while a gaff is limited to just squid.

Not my gaff. Mine is customized and uses 12/0 trebles. It can hold on to a biggie. :-)
