Pro Cure Bloody Tuna Super Gel - strips paint off lures?

Post by BigBad64 » Sun Jul 24, 2016 4:41 pm

I was trying to work out what stripped the paint off my River2Sea Sea Rock 14g lure (see attached photo - stripped area circled - same on other side of lure), and the only thing I can think of is the Bloody Tuna Super Gel I smeared on it.

Does that sound right? Ingredients include "powerful amino acids".............maybe I put too much on or you can't use it with painted lures?

Anyone know? Only a brand new lure used a couple of times.

I think you could be right with the tuna oil I use a fair bit in burley and it takes all the oil out of my skin on my hands. I now don't pack the burley by hand

I've used Pro Cure for years and never had an issue - although I have never used the scent in question (so my experience doesn't necessarily rule out your theory)

Off Frankston pier in the gale yesterday early am and later afternoon.

Lure in question landed my first ever salmon there in the afternoon session - nothing special - just over legal but I was happy to get off the mark.

Same lure caught another one tonight about 5.30pm - about the same size. I used the tuna oil again - I thought what the hell if half the paint's gone.

Both fish were nice and tasty - I expected something pretty ordinary tasting with what I'd read but they were really nice. :a_goodjob:

Is the paint that's remaining kind of goopy? If so it might have been stripped. More than likely it's just a bad paint job that has flaked off.

The best lures are the ones that look like they've been chewed to pieces imo

Cheap lures will do that. My Halco Outcasts usually look like that after a couple of casts from the hook scraping the paint off.

Not goopy, I suppose they are fairly cheap and it might have just flaked off but I don't recall it whacking something repeatedly in the short time I've had it. My money's on the oil - I was pretty "liberal" with my application. Oh well, as long as a salmon still grabs it I suppose it's no biggie.

I might go back to Gone Fishin' in Lathams Rd Carrum Downs where I bought the oil and lure and ask just out of curiosity.

Anyway, cheers for the comments.

I highly doubt that the oils at fault (have used it multiple times and never had an issue) my guess is that the lures grazed a rock or dragged along the sand at some point which has in turn scraped the paint off.
It's a pretty regular occurence with painted slugs

OK cheers.

They must use cheap paint to ensure repeat business.

I'll just have to wind faster and keep it off the bottom.
