I don't think chicken is illegal in berley. No mention of it on the DEPI site at least.

Chicken isn't illegal to use as burley but red meat, blood or offal is illegal (Pretty much any product from a mammal is illegal for burley as far as I know)

Fish frames, prawn heads, crab shells any fish left overs pilchard cubes make good burly.
If the fish isn't oily adding some tuna oil helps.
Depending on what you are fishing for you might want to use a cage or burly bomb to get the burly straight to the bottom, or cut it up fine or use the mincer and add put a handful over the side over 10 minutes.

For carp me and my mate use a blended mix of bread crumbs, corn kernels, hot dog slices and sugar.

The old adage a little often is the key to burley.
When shark fishing I tie a plastic drink bottle filled with tuna oil with a small hole in it to the back of the boat keeps an oil slick going for hours
When I used to fish fresh water a lot I bought a coffee grinder for the chicken pellets they have dried corn in them

Frozenpod mentioned the use of burley cages heres a photo of a couple I use the brown ones have a lead weight at the bottom and are used as the weight on a running sinker. The larger ones I use in wpb two ways the line runs through the center so you can put it above a paternoster rig or above the weight in a running sinker rig beats putting a burley cage down with about 10kg of weight when fishing deep channels

I was fertilising the garden with some liquid fertiliser on the weekend (fish emulsion and seaweed) and thought it smelt a lot more fishy than the various commercial attractants I've been buying over the years...has anyone tried using it instead of Tuna oil?

If its not viscous enough (oily) it will just wash away rather than stick to the filler (pellets/fish scraps)
