Tackle tray advice

Post by 4liters » Mon Mar 23, 2015 12:47 pm

Hi all,
Having got back into fishing recently and been on a few trips, I've decided that my current tackle boxes are giving me the ***** and need to be upgraded.

Specifically; every time the tackle boxes tip over or bounce around a little bit, all the small things like swivels, sinkers, hooks etc (basically anything loose in the trays and not kept in it's original packaging) end up all mixed up or fall to the bottom of the box.

I'm thinking one of those Plano tackles boxes (although if you guys think another brand might be better I'm happy to go with that) would be good but I wanted to ask people who have them if the lid of individual trays fits close enough to the tops of the compartments to keep the tackle where it is supposed to be if the box is bounced around a bit.
I'd love to hear peoples' thoughts.

Cheers,
Ian

Have a look at fishing backpacks, heaps easier to carry and rather than draws that spill like normal tackle boxes they just take 4 or 5 single tackle trays that you can alternate depending on what style of fishing you're doing.
Easily one of the best things I've bought.

One of the blokes I fish with has a industrial strength plastic trey,
Those cheap clear treys are useless in the boat if ya hit a wave hard enough, stuff can get mixed up....
Looks like it was from bunnings, I will ask him n try n get a pic...
To many boats kayak, helicopter , catch a fish, catch a fish

Thanks for the replies. I think a shoulder bag would be the best way to go, that way I can have a backpack for some of the bulkier stuff (like reels, water bottle and lunch), a cooler bag for the bait in one hand and my rods in the other. I think 3 trays would probably be more than enough for what I do, my main priority being a close enough fitting lid so that my stuff won't get mixed up. Maybe a trip to bunnings is in order.

Most fishing bags come with the trays already in them, and some even have lined bait compartments
