downrigger mount
After the post last week where we trolled hardbodies I mentioned my downrigger was out of action when i sold my boat with the mount attached. I had been slack bought a hookem mount for the new boat but because the angle of the plate was wayoff I had just chucked it in the shed. These days off I cut the plate off re profiled it today I took it into work where the very helpful welders rewelded the plate and added gusset plates to add a bit of rigidity what do you reckon just needs a polish its all stainless

I've been working on a downrigger myself for the kayak - it needed to be light and compact
I started with a broken 10 kg rod that I shortened the butt and made some stainless mounting plates to fit to a berkly rod holder - this fits striaght onto a mount on the yak
for the reel I've used a pelargic ebay cheapy OH is had level wind and a lever drag which should be easier to control the sink rate of the Bomb
a quick test it looks like there is plenty of drag to lock up to lift a 4 pound weight
I just had to shorten the lenth of the rod and fit a roller tip
today I got some 3 lb bombs and release clips , so I'm ready to drop and troll some liveys for pelagic things in a couple of weeks time at South West Rocks

Re: downrigger mount
Looks good mate. You must be pumped! Bring on Big Red! The other bonus of dragging lures around at this time of year is, you've got a good chance at a Kingie as well.

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
