As promised here is a picture of the surface controllers on the left different weights only the white tip sticks out of the water. On the right the preweighted crystal wagglers all made by drennan a popular company in the uk.

You can use dish washing liquid, instead of greasing the line when using floats. Just dampen a piece of cloth with the liquid, cast your float out, then retrieve the float, running the line through the damp cloth. Wipe the rest of the line to the rod tip. Repeat after every 5 or so casts. Sometime back I saw a Coarse fisho using this method at a comp, and it worked.

Thanks for pics Nudeup,I can see how the smaller ones would cast OK but think the wagglers would need a bit of practice? The English are masters with float fishing aren't they.

Its a very visual form of fishing but its not for everybody requires patience but looks great when the float starts to move then submerges remember the long floats are weighted to only have the tip above water I prefer to lock the bottom end with small split shot the fish feels nothing.

Drennan...a name that came up a lot when I googled this the other night!

I actually purchased some Silicone Mucilin line dressing a long time ago for this purpose...yet to use it so now or never!

Don't think I will trouble them for a while! :-D

For our Eildon trip I will stick with the bubble floats that I have. For the future...I go to Aussie Angler in Greensborough sometimes...would they stock some of the UK stuff? Also, what sort of rods do the 'pros' use...long ones?!!! When placing the rods in holders, keep the rods horizontal, rather than up on an angle?
thanks in advance

Jim, A 9ft Quivertip is ideal, length gives extra casting distance and a slight angle in rod holder will show loadup on the tip. However none of this critical, just adds to the experience. With the other things in place you would get em on a broom handle ---- but who wants to do that?

when fishing with a waggler, it is important to keep the line submerged to minimize the drift
so by the books the tip of the rod should pretty much touch the water

Should work a treat if using a baitrunner reel or if you leave the bail arm open - the fish feels very little or no resistance.

What stops the bait from hitting the bottom?

(refer to Trevking's suggested rig below) I think I may have asked Brett the same question...can't remember for sure but I'm guessing you need a second stopper above the float? Will the weight of the hook/bait pull the line through the float if there is no stopper above?
cheers
Jim
Edit...just read diagram properly...no stopper above float! :)

If u put a split shot above the hook or even if u don't the weight of the hook and bait will eventually sink u definately need a stopper above the float I just use a small split shot works just as well..

Unless trev has some idea I hadn't already thought of..
