Just some new mods to my gun :)

The line is Spectra (10 meters)

Had to do a little more to have it secured. Aside from putting sikaflex where the screw goes in to the side of the gun (so water doesn't flood the gun), I cut a little screw and shortened it and made it so that the screw goes through the mounting bracket and in to the tip of the reel (doesn't affect the rotation of the reel).

Did this because if I end up spearing a bigger than normal fish and it spools me, the chances that the reel would come off the bracket is quite likely, the screw in the mounting bracket locks in the reel so it doesn't get ripped off the bracket, in the unfortunate event that I do get spooled.

Cheers

when you fire the gun, does the reel handle spin or does it free spool? A spinning handle will affect your shots.

$25 for the reel and bracket from a dive shop in Mornington. It was a small shop that takes people on scuba and snorkelling trips

The handle spins, no free spooling, unfortunately.
You can loosen it so that when you shoot, it's VERY sensitive and the line easily peels off the reel or take some line off (approx 2 - 4 metres) before you shoot.
Can pretend that I'm fishing while under the water! lol

handle spins? How fast do you think it will spin? While under water, there must be a bit of resistance. I hope the vortex it will create will not spin you around (just exaggerating) :lolf: or worse, it will be come a helicopter and lift you to the surface. :lolf:

I am not keen on having loose lines while using a spear. Accidents do happen and if it gets tangled on my middle finger just before I fire, I dont think I will still be able to give someone the bird. :roflmao: Lucky I don't do spear fishing naked or my thing may get the gallows. :lolf: :lolf:

about the cold weather, the water temp is quite nice. You wont feel the cold. Just stay in the water until the next scorcher before you head home :roflmao:
