Thanks. Do you know which regulations? :? Could't find the relevant by-law, only the diving ones. Not intending to go more than 50 metres from water's edge.

Yeh.. a diving floating device with a flag.. thats white n blue is required .. so boats know you in and around 50-100 so they should not approach you.. you can buy them or have them made up urself.. but make sure it is a high vis one that a boat or jetski can spot from far away

Honestly I have never seen any regulations as such stating that you must have a dive flag, HOWEVER it is in the best interest for your own safety and friends, who decide to dive along.

People who have a boat licence should be able to easily identify what the 'diver below' flag looks like.
For those who do not have a licence or 'forget' - here's a link - http://www.transportsafety.vic.gov.au/m ... d-distance

And the most up to date Vic Rec Boating Safety Handbook can be found here - http://www.transportsafety.vic.gov.au/_ ... ndbook.pdf

You still get F-wits who either 'forget' or simply don't know the rules (read that people were paying the testers to mark them as competent, by a third party tester?). In saying that, get one as I have had plenty of close calls and I've been diving/snorkeling/spearfishing/freediving for a while now.. but you get the few who slowly move away from you  and I thank those people (I actually yell out thanking them!)

Cheers

Thank you vinhii and sidrx. Will have a look in the dive shops. Rock lobsters season starts again of Nov 15th or thereabouts. Hopefully I can find some legal size ones this time.

Strickly speaking once you get the goggles on and get in the water, you are a diver. Snorkelling , scuba or hooker are just different types of diving.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.
