what depth of water were the scallops in?Linc wrote:Went out yesterday off Rye, 3 of us on snorkel managed 53 scallops in a few hours, it just got too much work as the tide started to get stronger, but was good right on low tide. Thanks for the advise fellas

Well done mate a tasty catch. I've been trying to find a few on the snorkel around mornington unsuccessfully. I don't have a boat so I am limited to how far off the shore I can go. Do any forum members know of any general areas I should be looking shore based?

Yeah I imagine there would be more out deeper but with the current as strong as it was after the change of the tide it was hard enough to keep near the boat, let alone trying to dive down 6+ meters for a scallop :!:CrazyChenski wrote:You might wan tot go deeper. Definitely taking the scuba gear next time.
Having said that, I just cooked up a few for dinner with a garlic, shallots, butter and white wine reduction and they were well worth the workout! :dinner:

I use to Drive boats down that way & Rye is the best place. You really need scuba gear to clean up.
Head out to 12-14m off whitecliffs - should see a boat house with red doors that marks the spot from out on the water.
And you just use the tide to drift along collecting them. Make sure you have a float & line attach to you so your driver knows where you are.
And then you can use the line to tie your bags so you don't have to surface with them. Not easy with 100 in your bag.
Good luck
