Brimbank Park Fishing (Western Suburbs)
Hello everyone.
Just wondering if anyone has had any luck foshing down at Brimbank Park, it is a 10minute drive from my house and was thinking about throwing a line in later today.
I know they have a small dock upstream of the bridge near the information centre so might give it a go.
In the past i have heard of people catching some decent sized carp and redfin, just wanting to know if anyone has had any luck there recently

I used to live in Keilor growing up and fished Brimbank Park all the time. There is monster carp in there, not sure about Reddies though.
My best peice of advice is to watch out for the snakes.

Re: Brimbank Park Fishing (Western Suburbs)
I am aware of brown snakes down there so i will be sure to be cautious. Thanks for the heads up.
Any advice of your method? Float? Worms? Lures? Corn? Bread?
I have not fished carp before so any advice would be much appreciated
Heading down in about an hour or so, will let you know if we have any luck

I used to fish with a float with either bread or corn as bait.

Re: Brimbank Park Fishing (Western Suburbs)
I was out there last summer and it did look fishy. Water was clear so it might be worth throwing a hog back or similar spinner for a reddie or two. Some good snags upstream of the weir.
Admittedly I did not have a rod with me at the time. It was family picnic. Let us know how you go.

Re: Brimbank Park Fishing (Western Suburbs)
Back from a 3.5 hour session down at Brimbank, started at 5.30pm until 9.00pm
We found a spot just before the wall/bridge, on the tiny jetty they have built. We started with scrubbies and corn on a float on one rod, and 2" grub jig head on the other that i was slowly retrieving.
Changed to a spinner later on in the night but had no luck..not even a nibble. I did see a fish breach the water and splash right next to me at one point.
The water seems to be covered in a yellow layer on top that seemed to stain my line. There were also signs around warning not to swim, drink the water or eat the fish due to contamination....
I will try again in a few days and see if i get anything.

Probably blue green algae.
Scrub worms usually works. Bread can also do the trick for carp.
Good luck!

Re: Brimbank Park Fishing (Western Suburbs)
Went back down last night at 6pm for a few hours.
Used floats with corn and bread on one rod and was tossing a 2" grub with S Factor for 2 or 3 hours.. not even a nibble.
A few guys arrived at about 7.30pm yelling and screaming and drinking about 100 meters up from where i was..they had a rod in for a about 10mins and pulled in a fish...not sure what it was as my view was obstructed, but with the amount of screaming they were doing as they reeled it up i assume it was a monster....or possibly a small redfin.
I am personally having no luck at brimbank, but these other guys did give me a bit of hope that fish are around.

Re: Brimbank Park Fishing (Western Suburbs)
Was the water dirty and murky? Can be hard when its like that.
Maybe try with a running sinker and soft tip rod. Sometimes they bite subtly. Also mix some water mashed bread or breadcrumbs and use as burley.

Re: Brimbank Park Fishing (Western Suburbs)
If it is a steep drop off from the bank, make sure you fish very close to the bank. The fish will be cruising the edges right at your feet...
