2019 Reports Competition
So you guys know I love a good adventure....
With this suffocating winter finally easing up, I thought I'd run another comp on here. This forum is only as strong as the content that people post on it, without contributors, forums cease to function and become redundant, for example, every other Victorian fishing forum in the past 10 years or so.
By far the two most interesting kinds of post on here are the discussion of gear and tactics, and the reports from fishing trips, so I thought we'd host a report contest over the next few months.
Having run a few species comps, I understand that not everyone has the 100's of hours to dedicate to chasing individual species they might have no experience fishing for. While that format is an excellent way to determine which members are very good all round anglers, it often results in a pic of a fish on a brag mat with little or discussion or narrative, which ultimately doesn't contribute to the content of the forum
We've had some genuinely amazing reporters on here, people like Broomstick, Purple, Mazman, Barra Mick etc all provide extremely high quality content on a regular basis.
So here goes.
2019/20 FishVic Report Contest.
Entries open Grand final day Sept 28, 2019. Entries close end of summer, Feb 29th, 2020.
Write a report, and post it on the Fishing Victoria forum, then provide a link to that report in this thread. The reports will be judges based on the quality of content they provide, this includes
Writing
Photos
Videos
Quality of fish you catch
The quality of information provided regarding tactics, gear, etc
The kind of adventure you've been on
Or in short, the quality of the content you've provided on FishVic. Reports can be from ANY part of Australia, ANY kind of fishing and over ANY time span. For example, you do a trip to Mallacoota and then to Merimbula, post it in one report, that's fine.
Judging will be a panel of people, they are as follows
Myself. I have a degree in English literature and English language, I am a long time LBG fisherman and prefer heavier gear chasing bigger fish to finesse work. I've been on FishVic since 2012.
Purple. Purps is a professional photographer and frequently provides high quality content on both here and other social media platforms. He prefers lighter gear and targeting more finesse species. I asked him to be a judge because I'm clearly biased towards fishing with mens gear and he provides a balance.
FishingVic admin Jon. It's his forum, he is an extremely experienced fisho and has proven again and again to be a good objective judge of everything. Also he offered to help by donating some prizes.
I will consider adding a fourth judge if anyone wants the job. Judges will not be entering.
Prizes are entirely donations from Members. So far the prize pool is as follows
2 Medium sized nomads, donated by myself. 1 Madscad and 1 Riptide.
Couple of squid jigs and a bag of Gama's from Jon.
If you'd like to donate a prize or be a judge, let me know in this thread.

Re: 2019 Reports Competition
Love your idea mate, great way to freshen up the forum. I've been pretty slack with reports simply because winter is a tough season not for chasing fish but just being motivated enough to battle the elements. I too will donate something to the prize pool to help motivate more fishos to get out and have a crack.

Re: 2019 Reports Competition
Great idea dougie..
I stand with dougie with the comment about the contributors and content given out here..
no content provided and the forum dies a slow death just like many others ive been on, or are pretty much a ghost town now or just non existent anymore.
Let's hope we see some great entries from.our valuable members. I encourage everyone to give it a go, especially individuals who have been here long enough but have never invested in a report/contribution of any kind yet..
I will be watching entries closely, paying special attention to how pics are presented to the comp.
I'm looking for something outside the box, different angles, use of props, non blurry pics, clean subjects etc...
Let's not forget adrain meppstas and striplett for their lovely contribution here...
Last but not least
Ill add 10 packs of biodegradable lures aka gulps/slamz
To the prize pack.
Possible more to come..when I get home and see what I can add to the prize pack
Cheers

Judging is by the panel, not an individual..
I'm sure it's not going to be a problem whatsoever!!
Get cracking and start planning those fishing trips!!!

Re: 2019 Reports Competition
I am still waiting for more rock fishing photos and here's another one?
Mepps wins hands down. No one will top his reports if he can catch one trout in Vic.
