hey lads,

everytime i go fishing and use bait, i can never get the smell out of my hands.
im training to be a nurse atm and hand hygeine is kinda important. :super:

washing with soap, scrubbing i have tried most things.

WHat do you guys use or do. if you do anything at all.

Salt water is alright but usually i dont really bother if your going to catch fish anyway. Cheers Matari

the glyco-protein (slime) and oils that fish and bait produce is obviously resistant to water so that it doesn't just wash off the fishes body. this is why no matter how much you wash your hands, it doesn't seem to come out and the smell sticks around. the best remedy for this is just getting a bait towel. just get a old tea towel, rag or sweat towel that you don't particularly care about and rub your hands on it after you handle bait or fish. you have to keep it dry, because if it gets soggy or wet it won't rub anything off. following that, use some dettol or any other brand of hand sanatizer because the ones with high alchohol concentrations do a decent job and getting most of it off, but be sure to do this only AFTER you've finished your fishing session because it could damage the glyco-protein, which the fish use to stay alive and fight off bacteria. hope this helps

I use this stuff.

Rub it thoroughly all over your hands, working it with no water, then scrub while slowly washing it away.

but only at home, after I have finished fishing/filleting

Be careful though gets hot pretty quick

Totally get what you mean mate.
I usually wash my hands with some white vinegar when I get home and usually gets rid of the smell and then after wipe it with some dettol hand wipes :thumbsup:

Train to be a gynaecologist instead, fishy fingers probably come with the territory there.

Try some nice cheap Mcleans or Colgate toothpaste (It has some of the same stuff as most soaps).
The toothpaste is abrasive (you can also polish sliver, brass etc with it).
I keep a tube in my fishing kit and also have used it to get oil/grease off my hands too.
Great for tradie jobs too

Laughed out loud when I read that Mr G. It has to be experienced to fully understand how hot it can get , , , , it creeps up on you all of a sudden

I use laundry powder to wash my hands sometimes, I have an outside Laundry Building, so it's easier and handier. It sure does get hot, real quick. AND stings like crazy on any fresh cuts and scraps.
