Mornington Pier vs Frankston Pier: Which one's better?

Post by AzCoy7 » Tue Apr 16, 2019 8:03 am

I have never tried fishing in Frankston Pier, but I have tried fishing in Mornington Pier. Does Frankston Pier have more fish species? Or is Mornington PIer more preferable? Thoughts and perspectives are welcome.

It all depends, you can catch snapper, gars, mullet, salmon from Frankston Pier. Even the little pier at Oliver's hill you can catch all those species.

It really does depend on what you want to catch? and the time of year. It can be mayhem on the pier when the salmon are running.

You need to go there more often, I generally look to see if there is anyone fishing.
If there is a strong westerly, it can be a productive time to fish.

Keep giving it a go. I once fished a spot 5 times and got donuts and then after that started catching some very nice size pinkies.

All the fishing spots whether it is the piers, rivers, beaches have a rhythm and it learning to be in that spot at the right time of year, or day.

One day at Frankston I actually ran out of bait, I had a ball catching pinkie after pinkie, I have bagged out on gars, and caught salmon off that pier. I have seen some nice sized snapper caught as well.

Many people spend years learning to fish their local waters.

I walked along the pier one morning and there was a school of whiting in close and a bloke fishing the deep end, where the fish weren't. There is also a gutter that runs roughly where the first ladder is and it is well worth fishing that spot, but competition for these spots can be fierce.

Frankston took me a while to 'crack'. I prefer it -- it's not as productive as Mornington can be, but I'm also less likely to have to share it with 200 of my best friends.
