Why "ting"?
Good day,
I am a bit puzzled by the abbreviation "ting" for whiting. I can understand things like gummies and reds and kingies and pinkies but we wouldn't call gurnard "nard", or sturgeon "geon", or salmon "mon", or luderick "rick", so why "ting"? It sounds a bit like an abbreviation just for the sake of having an abbreviation.

Sign of the times.... Everyone seems too busy to say full words these days... it appears everything is abbreviated....
