You're off the pier/beach and also want to cast lures. 9' rod offers best of both worlds without being to heavy to hold.

IF you're looking at the shorespin range the coastal is the rod you want.

The penn Allegience II is also a superb rod in the same class for the price.

Agree the Veritas are a great rod. I have a few and whenever I let friends use them they convert to them. On sale at Compleat Angler at present.
