Elephant Fish
In the weeks to come I will be doing some land based western port beach fishing for gummies/elephants first of the trips starting tomorrow, just wondering if elephants are active during morning and day light hours, or if they are like gummies and prefer to come out at night.
Using 2/0 circles and suicides on a running sinker rig, along with fresh squid and salmon.
Wish me luck, will report back tomorrow.

Re: Elephant Fish
If the elephants are around they will bite both day and night right through the tide so put in a little berley and you should get onto them

Re: Elephant Fish
I’ve caught heaps of elephants during daylight, so don’t have to worry about that.

Re: Elephant Fish
If you get Ellie’s, bleed them well as they have a strong ammonia flavour. I usually bleed straight away on the yak then when I get home fillet & leave overnight in fridge to drain more ammonia/blood out.
I have also frozen them after filleting (they actually freeze quite well) & when the pieces thaw out release more blood & ammonia.
“If” you mess it up & don’t bleed them you can fillet them & place them in a salty brine solution in the fridge overnight that draws the ammonia out (does make them a bit salty but not bad though).
There’s mixed feelings to the taste, I don’t mind them but most my family won’t (some members after seeing photos & saying Aaah so cute Now Def won’t eat them now - very strange )
