Possible New fishing spot

Post by wem21 » Fri Feb 02, 2018 5:06 pm

Hi all,
Caught a small mackerel (?) on sandworms at Brighton pier a couple night ago and was instantly tangled with at least three lines. Scissors came in handy, so did dads 120kg weightlifter mate, making sure there wasn't any violence :)
Anyways, I think I've had enough of people swamping your spot as soon as you catch something, so I've been considering the little rock walls from Brighton to mordialloc along beach road. Have any of you guys had any luck on these?
Cheers

Thanks for the reply. What species are found there (land based)
And is it possible to catch them on soft plastics?
Thanks

Plenty of good spots along there. I’ve caught pinkies, flatties, whitings and other species just casting from the beach around there. Good luck

Assuming you don't have a car to drive around spots but the same method works with a pushy and public transport. And that is just google map and go try your luck. You can pick out reef/weed where squid might be and all manner of things that may increase your chances of a catch, regardless what it is. Most landbased areas in the bay fish the same with the same species on offer, and the 4 main rivers (yarra/marybinong/weribee/patto) fish very similar to each other. Try new areas, new techniques, new baits/lures.

It may mean you get a few donuts, get lost, sit in someone else's 'secret' spot when they rock up or all manner of things that aren't ideal, but doing all the legwork yourself is a lot more satisfying when you do catch.

And one last thing, buy a diary. Record as much detail about Location, weather and water conditions, times fished, baits/lures etc. and what you caught every single trip. A dairy started today will last well over 5 years before the a4 page for any date is full, and you end up having 5+ years of accurate data to look back on for any future fishing trip. Fish are habitual in nature, cracking that code is the key to consistently catching your target
