Re: Tips For L/B Gummy Sharks?
Honestly I think the only secret to this is time and effort being put in.
They arent very fussy fish that eat bait, matter of having a line in the water when there is a hungry fish around.
:water:
The real upside to this is that the by catch can be entertaining.

There is always more to learn , fish to catch , places to see and friends to make.

You can run a couple of kg's of drag without fear of your rod going in the drink.bilby wrote:Yes, but this is a landbased thread - fishing for gummy shark with the drag in gear may lead to distressing results!
40mm pvc smacked a good distance into the sand isn't budging.

1.5kg/2kg of drag isn’t going to see your rod fly into the oceanbilby wrote:Yes, but this is a landbased thread - fishing for gummy shark with the drag in gear may lead to distressing results!

Re: Tips For L/B Gummy Sharks?
i don't use circles often so I can't say much about it. I would run twin suicide hooks . I find the 5/0 (gamakatsu) to be the perfect size and strength for most fishing around the bay's ie: snapper gummy mulloway etc.
Regarding baits - they're all top baits, but I would be ditching blue bait. If there's no fresh bait pillies would do the job.
Anyway...speaking of gummies here's one my brother caught early this morning near Wonthaggi!!

Re: Tips For L/B Gummy Sharks?
Went to stockyard point.
I used 3 surf rods, 2 with 8/0 circles and 1 with suicides. The rod with the twin 6/0 suicides got a good hit and the rod loaded up, I striked and reeled him in about half way, unfortunately he got off (not big though). Soon after the rod with the circle hook bends down and I catch a port Jackson. I also got a few rays on both suicide hooks and circle hooks.
In my opinion they are even, but I would prefer circles as once they are hooked it’s more difficult for the hook to come out, though when you use suicides you might hook up easier but it comes off easier.
Thanks for all the tips, and I will post more on my gummy shark trips when I have the chance, hopefully I will crack a big one, or actually one at all
