float fishing
Over the years I have managed to collect a number of floats but have never used them.
As a teenager I used to fish for roach in the Plenty River, but that was the last time I used them.
So does anyone do a lot of float fishing and under what circumstances?

Re: float fishing
I still use floats regularly for trout and carp; I have a collection of the clear egg type floats and a number of waggler floats. As to when, it really depends. I always fish mudeyes under a float and often maggots as well, but I've got some decent trout just with a single scrubworb fished deep under a float too. If I'm fishing over very snaggy water, float can be a great help and if I want to fish shallow, weedy lake margins without spooking fish - I let the breeze take the float (and the bait of course) right into the shore.

I use floats for squid garfish and sweep.
I love having a float with a baited jig when i fish for whiting sit out the back of the boat.
Often saved a trip

Re: float fishing
Wagglers and the like are great for finesse fishers. I find a square slice of cork or washed up thong works fine.

Re: float fishing
sounds like I need to dust my collection of floats off and start giving them a try
Re: float fishing
I used to do a lot of luderick fishing in East Gippsland with floats and greenweed. Apart from Mulloway, it's my favourite type of fishing, really - it's a shame they aren't available around the areas I fish in Melbourne.
