trout & rain

Post by TheLoneTurtle » Thu Nov 30, 2017 7:46 pm

does rain ruin wild trout fishing spots in small streams/ river, as in does the water overflow and become no good for fishing.
I have heard that rain is good for trout in streams as it washes bugs into the water.

Cheers guys.

Flooded rivers still fish well but best with bait. Floating worms is great fun for trout in flooded streams.

Yeah mate, it can be good but it depends on the creek or river, if its flowing to fast with no back water then you will struggle but a high river with a deep flowing pool would be good for worms.. little secret is to only use the bugs or grubs that you find along that river bank because its what there eating. Also keep your distance from the bank because mr trout will see you before you see him, he might not bugger off but he will reject and food you drift past him.

I fished fast running water at Thornton years ago with worms under a bubble with a dropper about 30 mm.
The trick was to cast out and then walk the bank as it moved downstream (this is possible near the bridge on both sides)
Got a couple of nice trout and it was great fun.

Rain at this time of the year gives the rivers a lift and normally brings the trout on, they are usually a lot more aggressive..

cheers

Alright, so as expected, the river was high. But the current was not running too fast, i found one deep hole and ended up with 3 trout from the same spot, each about 20cm each, all released. Continued walking the river and saw a few trout jumping in one spot, had a cast and BANG, i hooked a decent 26cm trout. That's it for 3 hours of fishing, i reckon it wasn't too bad considering the wild conditions over the weekend! (All caught on worms)

Cheers
