give it plenty time to drop and sit, too often people rip it away too soon before it has chance to grab it. If you get a touch and it drops it, release bail and let it fall back, squid often come back for repeated goes at it.

Softest tip rod you own, that way it can draw it back to its mouth before feeling tension, otherwise you just get single candle hook ups

Thanks guys, i have about 30 different jigs for some reason and all are different colors and sizes, going in the late afternoon to a bit into night.
Do tides matter for squid?

Best at slack tide so your jigs get to the bottom faster but still fishable at running tide

For pier fishing I prefer high tide. I believe they come in with the tide and also the water is clearer.
High tide at sunrise or sunset is best

Alright i caught 5 squid in 2 hours, one on a pink jig, 2 on black, 1 on orange and 1 on white, so a big variation was the key for me that day. In the middle of the low tide. So good day, they were decent sizes too.

thanks for all the help guys! Much appreciated!

Squid will sometimes hang in a certain area, also they can move around a fair bit. Example can be you are fishing a certain area without luck and then in the space of 30 mins catch a few squid.

Another experience, went over a spot in the boat it was overcast and no luck, went back to the same spot when it was sunny and we caught a few squid.
