New boat, What u guys think??

Post by Froggie » Thu Jun 22, 2017 5:25 pm

Hi all,
looking for a new boat :

http://www.horizonboats.com.au/boat-ran ... /scorpion/

http://www.quintrex.com.au/Aluminium-Bo ... 0SeaSpirit

Looking at this 2 boats not sure which one are better.. probably just a bay fishing not really offshore.
Need some opinions.

thanks in advance.

Both boats look like they would be suitable for in the bay even some light offshore fishing in the right conditions. Would you be fitting them out with electronics, anchor winch etc.

Both look good. I had 1 very similar.
Just make sure.you can.get in and out of the hatch easily when pulling rhe anchor in.
I use.to take it of bermagui upto a 1.5 mt swell bottom bashing and just got rocked around a bit but still fishable

I can't say I have an opinion as to which is preferable as I haven't ridden in either, but looking at the specs I do have a query for the more experienced.

The Scorpion 525 has 3mm bottom and sides and the boat weight is 450kg
The Sea Spirit 510 has 3mm bottom and 2.5mm sides yet weighs 550kg

Beams are almost identical so where does the extra weight come from?
Plate flooring in the Quintrex but not the Horizon?
Cheers,
Neil

Quiny can handke a extra 50 kilo of motor transom weight.
Quinny will be easier sell secondhand imo

Quintrex would be a no brainer if I was buying. Big enough for offshore on a nice day.
Let's face it, you won't go offshore on not such a nice day even if you had a 6m boat ;)...at least I wouldn't.
Good luck

Sum up the pros and cons of both, most importantly test both, offer the dealers a depositas an incentive for a test run. My choice of the 2... Hard to say. Horizon will be cheaper to buy, just as easy to sell however the depreciation will most likely be higher too. Bm made a good note about the extra 50kg the quinny can hold on its back end, vital if you compare say a yammy f70 Vs Merc 75, one is 2.1l, the other somewhere around 1.2l block so makes a huge difference to motor weights and eventual performance. Also what you can option up and the internal layout.

If cost is the biggest factor and the Horizon is over 5k cheaper in very similar guise it's a no brainer. Closer than that, I'd lean towards the quinny. I don't like most coke cans so no experience with either boat
