Hi all. Found this great website. It's the 1st public free AWQ Training Package which will provide you with everything you need to know about VHF marine radio frequencies and protocols to help you to gain the Australian Waters Qualification.

Simply download the AWQ zip file to your computer, unzip the file and click on the AWQ.exe file to start the program. The training package will also run directly from a USB stick once it is unzipped. Please note that this is a windows based program.

This program is the first public version released and further updates can be expected in the future.

This website also has a lot of boat safety advice and info.

Thankyou Joe, this is really useful, had already ordered the handbook from UTAS, but having the rest of the package is a real bonus

That is fantastic. It is something I keep putting off from doing. Are there any on-line certification courses or are they all face to face?

I guess you still need to do the test to get your certificate to use the VHF radio legally and get your number to use DSC. But yes it is a good self- training site/ program. "Peninsula training" can organise the test for Melbourne based anglers.
