Charter Info/Ideas for Up North

Post by purple5ive » Fri Mar 24, 2017 9:33 am

Gday Guys
All this recent trout and carp shitfights have got me even more interested in doing a fishing charter up north
Im looking for some info on Doing a charter That does a couple of days fishing trips on a mother ship. Somewhere up north, mainly looking for bottom bashing using lures and such for reef species.
I am quite fascinated with the varied colourings of the reef species up north and mainly want to catch and release, take photos etc, so not looking at chasing GTs and thing like that.
I know a few people have done some similar trips here.
Even if its only an overnight trip then that’s fine with me, more so just want to catch something different than what we can in PPB and WPB.
If anyone’s keen to tag along then let me know, more the merrier I say.
I don’t have any dates as such and most likely only go next year sometime, but mainly just looking for info and first hand experiences, when is a good time to go up north, (queensland most likely) how much to budget for it, what sort of food is provided (if fishing a few days etc)

cheers

I was up there recently back in early feb purp.
Was great but forgot about the wet season they have up there.
Was bucketing down most days while we were there for 6 days.
Got some fishing done and caught some species I never caught before but was fishing in pouring rain.
Went up as far as cape tribulation. Probably best to avoid those months.
We are planning another trip possibly late this year around July/august.

did you go on a live aboard charter mate? or just hire your own boat and fish?
how much was the total trip costs, and what sort of fishing did you do lures, bait??
would be good if you can give me a good description of the trip and what sort of fish was caught.

the wet weather season and stuff like that is what im wanting to know about and go at the best times etc.
are you going back to the same place as well, pending what you guys are doing and how much i could possibly join you (if theres room ofcourse)
cheers

Are you set on up north? My old man has a mate who lives over near exmouth in WA and reckons the fishing there is pretty amazing. Boat hire for the day is anywhere from 300-500 depending on the boat.

nah, anywhere top end really, or anything other than SA, VIC and NSW i want to catch the colourfull pretty fish hahaha hence why im keen on reef fishing.
Theres arafura Bluewater from darwin thats a good charter company.
im more inclined to go on a boat that has a local skipper, cause they will put you onto the fish most of the time, rather than drive around aimlessly trying to find fish

Check out Chappy and gez's "outta juice" clips on YouTube. They head up to Weipa and fish with Weipa sportfishing. From what I can tell it's the perfect location for fishing for barra or going offshore for reef species.

It's a bucket list spot for me
