Do Fish Sleep?

Do Fish Sleep?

I'm aware that some reef fish like to tuck themselves away in crevasses or caves for the night but do they really sleep?

What about fish that live in waters with a constant current or what about open ocean pelagic's? I've always assumed that they need to keep moving to get water passing over their gills and thus get oxygen, or can fish somehow go into something like an auto pilot mode and keep swimming while getting some kind of rest?

No wonder I have trouble catching them, the buggers are sleeping. ;-) cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

That was an interesting link.

Now I have to figure out a way to explain it to my five year old granddaughter.
