First Mako

Post by scott__henning » Tue Jan 03, 2017 10:23 pm

Finally got my first mako on the board toda after a few unsuccessful trips, a good way to start 2017.

Caught out of Inverloch, about 2 hours after starting a burly trail. Looking forward to cooking up some flake!

Stun, bleed and gut. Fill gut with ice, layer wet hessian bags or something over the fleshy parts or leave hanging in the water (risk it being taken by another though) and they're a lot better and nowhere near dry. Like all flake it's the care taken after the kill that determines it's edibility

I guess if you don't put a hook out, and wait for a smaller one to come up the trail before tossing a bait, that'd be the best best.

Or tag and release the bigger fish
