no Bayrock. once all 8 units are off the warm water inlet will stop instantaneously. the heat comes from the cooling of the steam from power production so when the boilers are off there is no way to heat the water. by by barra and everything else in there except the carp and eels.

Apparently there's Aquafiers in the mine that will keep the pondage warm enough.Bayrock wrote:Is the warm water going to remain on?
I would imagine that would cost a big wad of cash to keep going..
If not, what will happen to all the Barra in there?

Aquifers.. never heard of that..
Are the anglers allowed to keep the barra or is it catch and release only?
It'd be a bit silly to enforce C&R if they are all going to die en masse once the heat stops.

the bag limit is 1 PP, Dept of Fisheries have stated on their website to not have more than 2 serves per week of barra from Hazelwood. I guess thats why a lot of ppl are going C&R.

Personally I would not ingest anything from that place, but they sure are fun to catch

The Aquafiers are in the bottom of the open coal mine which require pumping to prevent the mine filling i have been told. The water temperature is supposedly around 50 degrees. If true this is expected to prolong the life of the fishery until the mine is rehabilitated.

It was a good idea at the time(when it was heated for free by the french)but throwing more fishing $$ at it to prolong what is the inevitable doesn't make sense to me.
I hope all you guys that got a boat in the ballot or are brave enough to go LB have a ball

The pumping of water will be done by the station owner drew. If the fish survive until the mine rehabilitation then who knows what will happen.drew 2 wrote:It was a good idea at the time(when it was heated for free by the french)but throwing more fishing $$ at it to prolong what is the inevitable doesn't make sense to me.
