A good general fishing line

Post by ChrisD » Wed Sep 19, 2012 9:50 am

I am currently looking to put new line on my reels - i have some cheap brand on there currently and it is getting a few years old now.
But looking at all the varities of line out there it can be a bit confusing as to which to use. So I thought i would put it out to the panel of experts for your takes on the best general purpose line.
I pretty much only fish freshwater, mainly soaking bait, but occassionaly will throw out a spinner or two.

If u want braid, I've used fins braid and found it to be very good.
To fish or not to fish...NOT TO FISH ??Yea...like that's even an option !

Thanks Guys - Braid seems to be the way to go.
Guess I tend to be slow to update to new product etc so have not yet used it.
Looks like I will have to get out over the weekend and see which braid fits the budget. And then get back out there and catch some fish with it. :Fishing_1:
would hate to keep using the old woren out line, and risk loosing that catch of a life time due to the line breaking.

braid is good for fishing land based where you dont have to worry bout tangling up with other lines too much. but if it gets tangled in another line its a pain to untangle. also if using braid make sure to use a good wire or fluorocarbon leader or at least mono-filament leader because if the braid gets frayed on a reef or anything else you can lose a really good fish.

Braid is very good doesn't really matter what brand you choose they are good and the prices have dropped alot in the last few years , always put mono on the spool first then top it up with your braid ,braid is thinner than mono therefor you will still get enough on this will stop the braid from slipping on the spool and also means that you will not use as much . Look in big w and Kmart have found good prices in there some times half of what the tackle shops sell the same stuff also learn to tie the leader to the braid (in my opinion) instead of using a swivel because when you wind in and forget to stop in time the swiwel hits the end guide and can smash it and allows for a longer leader good luck.
