I am going for Gummy Sharks next
I have seen gummies caught off Mornington and Mordiallic piers during the day. I also saw a shark fin at fishermans beach boat ramp, whilst swimming my dogs, they both came back intact without any missing limbs so I assume it was a gummy.

Re: Looking for Fishing Buddy who has a Boat!
Hey everyone,
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
I am back again as I have a little query I would like to get cleared out.
I have been going to Lang Lang to catch my first Gummy Shark as the first time I went there, I saw someone catch a pretty big one right in front of me.
He was nice enough to give it to me after his wife would not let him bring it home (poor guy). I have been using a running sinker, size 5 star sinker and Size 6/0 suicide hook. If i try and cast at the same spot he caught his Gummy Shark, I am sure to catch one right?
I have seen on other topics where Gummy Shark is hit and miss. What I want to understand is how to determine where the gutters are, I believe you look for them at low tide, but I did not notice any gutters or anything during this time.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, I have been using Fresh Squid which was caught at Fish Market.

Re: Looking for Fishing Buddy who has a Boat!
you don't need to be in the channel when fishing the higher reaches of western port like lang lang, and in fact I prefer not to be in the channel when chasing gummies. I regularly catch them in less than 6 feet of water. your rig seems fine. best to fish either dawn or dusk with imo a late incoming-early outgoing tide best where they come up onto the shallow banks to feed on crabs and what not, but can catch them at all stages of the day and tide.
also, lol @ fresh squid caught at the fish market.
catch some banana prawns next time you're there too, they are dynamite.

Great to hear, guess it is up to the timing now. What I meant was, the Squid was caught in the morning and they sold it at the market ^_^Kimtown wrote:you don't need to be in the channel when fishing the higher reaches of western port like lang lang, and in fact I prefer not to be in the channel when chasing gummies.
